Skin Concerns in Melbourne: Doctor-Led Care at Our Black Rock Clinic

Most people come to us because of a specific skin concern. Pigmentation that has crept in over years of sun exposure. Persistent redness across the cheeks. Scarring left over from teenage acne. Stretch marks that have changed how someone feels about their own skin. At Bay Medical Aesthetics, we treat these concerns the way we treat anything else: a clinical assessment first, then a considered plan, then ongoing care from the right practitioner for the right treatment.

Our doctor-led clinic in Black Rock has served Bayside since 2001. Treatments are delivered by the practitioner best suited to the service: our cosmetic doctor for procedures requiring medical delivery (PRP, subcision, cosmetic medicine consultations), our experienced dermal therapist for laser, skin needling, peels, RF, microdermabrasion, IPL, LED, and medi-facials. Doctor consultation is available for any client who wants a medical opinion before commencing treatment, or for complex cases.

Pigmentation Treatment in Melbourne

Pigmentation describes a range of changes in skin colour: brown spots, age spots, sun damage, post-inflammatory marks from old acne, and broader uneven skin tone. Pigmentation treatment depends on identifying the type of pigmentation correctly, because the approach varies significantly. A clinical assessment is the right starting point because many surface treatments will worsen pigmentation if applied to the wrong type. Our pigmentation treatment in Melbourne covers laser-based approaches (pigmentation laser, IPL photo rejuvenation), skin needling, peels, and topical regimens, often combined for best results. Most of these treatments are delivered by our dermal therapist, with the doctor available for complex or unclear cases.

Rosacea Treatment in Melbourne

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition characterised by persistent facial redness, flushing, visible vessels, and sometimes inflammatory papules. It tends to develop in adulthood and can range from mild flushing to more prominent involvement of the cheeks, nose, and forehead. Our rosacea treatment in Melbourne focuses on a long-term plan: identifying triggers, using vascular laser to target visible vessels, supporting the skin barrier, and managing flares. Rosacea is a condition rather than a cosmetic issue, which is why doctor consultation is recommended at the start. Ongoing treatment is delivered by our dermal therapist under medical oversight.

Melasma Treatment in Melbourne

Melasma is a specific form of pigmentation that typically presents as larger patches on the cheeks, forehead, upper lip, and chin. It is hormonally influenced and notoriously persistent. Melasma treatment in Melbourne requires patience and the right sequence of options. Aggressive treatment can make melasma worse rather than better. Our approach starts with skin protection (sun is the single biggest factor), then layered treatment combining gentle topicals, peels, and selected light-based options where appropriate. Doctor consultation is the starting point for melasma given its complexity.

Sun Damage Treatment in Melbourne

Sun damage shows up as a combination of pigmentation, texture changes, fine lines, and loss of skin quality. Sun damage treatment in Melbourne is rarely a single procedure; it is usually a plan combining IPL or pigmentation laser, skin needling, peels, and a sustained topical regimen. The Melbourne climate plus an outdoor lifestyle means most adults carry some sun damage. Treatment is delivered by our dermal therapist as a course, with progress reviewed and adjusted as needed.

Acne and Acne Scarring

Active acne and the scarring it can leave behind are two different problems with two different approaches. Active acne benefits from a clinical plan including skin care, possibly medical treatment, and in-clinic supportive treatments. Acne scarring is best addressed by combination treatments including subcision (doctor-delivered), PRP (doctor-delivered), skin needling (dermal therapist), and selective laser resurfacing. We have a dedicated [Scars & Keloids] page that covers this in more depth.

Stretch Mark Treatment in Melbourne

Stretch marks (striae) develop when skin stretches faster than it can adapt, commonly during growth spurts, pregnancy, or weight changes. They start red or purple (newer stretch marks) and fade to silver or white over time (older stretch marks). Stretch mark treatment in Melbourne uses skin needling, fractional CO2 laser, and combination approaches depending on the age and location of the marks. Newer red stretch marks generally respond better than older silver ones, but improvement is possible for both. Treatment is delivered by our dermal therapist.

How a Skin Concerns Consultation Works

Every consultation begins with the same approach. We listen to your concern, examine the skin in good light, take a history, and explain the realistic options. Some concerns benefit from a doctor consultation at the start (rosacea, melasma, scarring, anything complex). Other concerns can be addressed directly with our dermal therapist. The first conversation works out which path suits you.

Where prescription-only options are relevant to your concern, they may be discussed during a doctor consultation. Where in-clinic procedures are appropriate, you will be given clear information on what to expect, how many sessions, who delivers them, and what they will cost.

Why Bay Medical Aesthetics for Skin Concerns

Many skin concerns sit on the boundary between cosmetic and medical. Pigmentation can be benign or it can be something that needs medical review. Rosacea is a medical condition. Persistent skin redness sometimes has an underlying cause that warrants investigation. A doctor-led clinic means these questions are considered at the start, not glossed over in favour of selling a treatment.

Our setup combines a cosmetic doctor for the medical end of the spectrum with an experienced dermal therapist for the bulk of in-clinic treatment delivery. You get the right practitioner for the right service.
