Lasers are the standard treatment in removing tattoos by selectively targeting the pigment colour. The type of laser used depends upon the pigment colours. Most often, a Q-Switch Nd YAG laser is used since it can target many colours. At Bay Medical Aesthetics, we offer laser tattoo removal in using the Q-Switch laser, allowing you to easily remove unwanted tattoos.
Our Bayside laser tattoo removal treatment is a safe, fast and effective procedure. The treatment site is cleaned and topical anaesthesia is applied for about 30 to 60 minutes. The procedure takes about 10 to 20 minutes depending on the size of the tattoo. A simple dressing may be applied after the procedure. Patients are advised to keep the treated area dry and clean for a few days after the procedure. Following the treatment, there might be some discolouration, which will fade after few weeks.
For effective removal of a tattoo, multiple treatments may be required. 5 to 10 treatment visits are typically recommended for optimal removal of a full colour tattoo, with treatments performed once every 4 to 6 weeks.. The number of visits and the cost will ultimately depend on the size of the tattoo.
The effectiveness of a laser session can also depend on the colour and depth of a tattoo. Tattoo artists can infuse the dye at single or multiple planes beneath the skin. Homemade tattoos are often applied with an uneven hand and their removal may be more difficult. The way tattoo pigments are mixed is also an important factor, as colours with a blue, green or orange base can be more difficult to remove.
