In addition to facial concerns, Dermapen skin needling is sometimes used to treat stretch marks in other areas of the body. Studies have found that micro skin needling was effective for stretch marks on the thighs and abdominal area when combined with fillers. Scarring on other body parts may also be treated with this procedure. However, micro skin needling is primarily used on the face.

Can micro skin needling reduce stretch marks on the body?

Yes. Micro skin needling effectively helps to build the tissue within the stretch marks through the production of collagen. This builds up the indentation and reduces the colour of the stretch marks, and in some cases it can make them disappear completely.

Can micro skin needling treat the area around the eyes?

Only certain micro skin needling devices can treat the eye contour. We use the M.Pen Pro that has six scaled and adjustable depths and increased oscillation, which enables us to effectively treat the delicate skin around the eyes. The result for the eye contour is a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, along with a healthier, tighter-looking appearance.

How long is each micro skin needling treatment?

Each treatment session takes between 30 to 60 minutes depending on the size of the area treated and if topical anaesthesia is required.

Is there any downtime?

There is little to no downtime. Slight redness and warmth to the skin may be experienced after your session, and dryness can be experienced a few days post-treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments required is dependent on your skin concern and goals. Typically, 1-2 treatments will be required to improve the general appearance of the skin, while 3-6 treatments are required to correct scars, stretch marks, etc. Treatments are done at monthly intervals. Our skin expert will assess your skin during an initial consultation and recommend an optimal number of treatments.

How does micro skin needling differ from Fractional Laser treatment?

Both treatments address concerns of loose, crepey skin, scars, fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, acne scars and open pores. However, if you are looking for more targeted treatment, Fractional Laser is best for overall appearance and general redness while micro skin needling is best for darker skin tones and pigmentation or sun damage. Are there any risks or adverse effects?

Like all cosmetic procedures, micro skin needling isn’t without risk. The most common adverse effect is minor skin irritation immediately following the procedure. You may also see redness for a few days. If done correctly, Dermapen skin needling does not scratch the surface of the skin. Call your doctor if you notice more severe adverse effects, such as bleeding, bruising, infection or peeling. These risks are significantly reduced when the treatment is performed by skilled and experienced professionals.
